Yumiko Ooshima is a Japanese mangaka, illustrator and writer. She is associated with the year 24 group. She debuted in 1968, with her work [Paula no Namida](https://anilist.co/manga/149821), which was published in "Weekly Margaret's Spring Break Special Edition".
She is credited with popularizing the kemonomimi (catgirl) character type through her creation of [Chibi-neko](https://anilist.co/character/46587) from [Wata no Kuni Hoshi](https://anilist.co/manga/39280).
She received the 1973 Japan Cartoonists Association Award for excellence for [Mimosa Yakata de Tsukamaete](https://anilist.co/manga/43208), the 1978 Kodansha Manga Award for shoujo for [Wata no Kuni Hoshi](https://anilist.co/manga/39280) and the 2008 Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize Short Story Award for [Goo Goo Datte Neko de Aru](https://anilist.co/manga/43210/).
In 1997, she was hospitalized for a malignant tumor and was discharged in 1998.
