Kitaoka made her voice acting debut in [Kiddy Girl-and](https://anilist.co/anime/3349/) under the stage name Aya Gouda. She went on to use that name until she left the Production Ace agency in September 2012.

On March 27, 2016, she announced her marriage and her retirement from voice acting in a blog post. She is currently a voice acting instructor at Sapporo Broadcasting Arts College.
