Prior to his falling ill, he was often immersed in the work in order to protect the island. However, he eventually fell ill, influenced by the Neo U.N.'s attack again Japan, and he now has a severe disability and requires a life support system to sustain his life.

His wife is dead, and his daughter has been taking care of him.
