Son of Sergei Smirnov, the Wild Bear of Russia. Rank is 2nd Lieutenant. He has an intense hatred of his father because of a military incident in which Sergei had to choose between saving his wife and saving his men. During his time in the A-Laws, he is assigned to the same unit as Louise Havley. Andrei appears to have one-sided feelings for Louise as he sympathizes with her hatred of the Gundams and is concerned about her constant spasms and one-track mind about revenge. During "Awakening of a trailblazer", Andrei has remained in the federation forces, following the collapse of the A-Laws organization, having a clearer picture of why he fights and who he fights for.
